Bathroom High

I prefer my bathroom to be white with splashes of colors. But the walls should be white, it’s an OC trait in me I guess. However, sometimes I think having color would be fun. Love the colors and patterns in these bathrooms:

Lists

I have to take the advice of a friend and actually list down the big things I want for the house and have them listed in terms of priority so that I can buy them one by one. Buying them altogether would not happen as they are big ticket items.

So here we are:

1. Another bed

2. Another mattress to go with the bed

3. A vanity dresser for me

4. A computer chair

5. A pantry shelf/cabinet for my microwave, toaster (and) soon-to-be coffee maker.

6. Odds and ends for the kitchen and bathroom.

The list is obviously endless.

How to Use Rugs and Be Clean

Sometimes I think I need depression treatment whenever I mull over the constant state of clutter my house is in no matter how much I throw things out (we don’t even shop for little things anymore). And then I see beautiful homes and organized clutter and it keeps a lot of my self-control to prevent me from eating all the chocolate in the fridge.

Here is a tip I learned from Organizing Your Way – very nice site, make sure you subscribe to its feed:
USE COLOR-CODED RUGS!

I cannot afford the buy paper towels and replace kitchen towels/sponges all the time so making sure I keep rugs color-coded makes me save money and keeps me assured that nothings gets confusing.

You can classify them into:

:: rags for cleaning hands and faces after meals
:: towels for drying dishes
:: sponges
:: old rags for cleaning
:: no-pill towels for food

Storage Systems

I have been doing a little spring cleaning lately because school season starts in less than a week. I first tackled our clothes closet and I realize I badly need a dresser for my make-up, skin care, lotion and accessories. I also need little compartments for my underclothes and socks. It’s a good thing I don’t need to get any payday advance for these organizers because they come dirty cheap at IKEA.

I have two of these already. I think I need to get two more so we can have a set for each one of us in the family.

KOMPLEMENT Boxes

I will count the shoes we have that need to be boxed (the pricey ones) and I will buy more of these too:

And I need this for my watches, earrings and small make-up stuff:

Windows to the House

I have always thought of windows as the perfect accents to a house. It should match the exteriors and be efficient enough to be able to bring sun and air into the house. I love a roomy, well-ventilated house. And it’s the windows’ strategic location and type that determines it. Even if you have air-conditioning, nothing beats fresh air!

In America most houses prefer the energy efficient windows because they keep them warm during cold weather while keeping the room cool during summer. Having this type of windows can make a difference in your energy saving tradition.

Bay windows are a favorite of mine. These are windows that are joined together to form one large viewing area. They are typically 3 separate windows that make up this window. The centre one is a fixed frame window and the others are double hung or casement depending on the make.

Penguin Windows is a leading company of replacement windows.  Penguin windows come with lifetime guarantee and you can save up to 40% on the energy related bills. The windows are priced moderately which makes them affordable. Penguin windows prefers to install windows using its own trained and certified installers. I might try them soon.

Great Use of White Space

I have always had a strong affinity towards white things. If only I had three housekeepers to keep my house immaculately clean and have no kids in the house, I would not think twice in getting a white couch. But chances are, it’s always chaos with out family – no need for the strongest fat burners when you are taking care of my kids). I love the artwork in the fireplace and the yellow flowers.

And a great kitchen countertop table.

I want a kitchen that gets such great light – maybe it would help me wake up in the mornings

Some More Home Tips

  • Find “ME” space. Always set aside a quiet space you can escape to for reading, snoozing, or recharging. (I have yet to claim this!)
  • Create a breakfast nook. This becomes a space where your whole family can bond together for a few moment over food before rushing to office or school.
  • Have a studio, space or room for your hobbies. This is extremely important for us as we are a family of techies. We must have laptops wired to the internet at all times. It must be extremely nice if we can have a room where we can surf the net, download and watch movies while eating popcorn all day.

Starter Home Tips

A starter home involved a husband and a wife, at first and eventually grows into a family. With children, there are a lot of aspects to consider and here are some points:

  • Spaces should be flexible. The rest of the home should be flexible, a start-up family with a lot of disposable income is rare, so it’s hard to build what you like in one go. There should always be provisions for future expansions and improvements.
  • You will need family or entertainment rooms. One way to keep kids at home is provide them with a venue where they can relax and bond with the rest of the family and even bring home to entertain friends. You can have an entertainment room and game room with ping pong tables or billiard tables for recreation.

Mobile Homes – New Trend of Houses?

It seems that mobile homes are the new trend for houses given that the real estate market is still in bad shape. Actually, you would be surprised about the new mobile homes out these days, they really are in with the design trend of houses done on site. Take a look at the sample mobile homes from AZChampion:

Most of the time your payments on the home, and the lot rent combined are less then that of the area rental market. I think that is the main advantage. The mobile homes for sale are still sold a lot less than actual homes on real estate property. There are also a lot of misconception that mobiles homes are a bad investment.

Mobile homes in parks do go down in value, but mobile homes on privately owned land usually go up in value, particularly if the land is in demand. In certain desirable areas, in fact, you’ll find a lot of of mobile homes: property around lakes, for instance, where people have been living in mobile homes as vacation or retirement homes! Mobile home are movable – that’s the main advantage of it especially if you want to retire to a new place. Mobile homes also serve as vacation houses when families are on vacation – they just lug their homes around. Isn’t that neat? In case you would want to sell yours, make sure to keep it on great shape and you still can sell it for the amount you paid for within five years.
